Learn to play Baritone, Euphonium or Tuba

Baritone / Euphonium

The Euphonium is sometimes referred to as the Tenor Tuba and is most commonly found in the brass band or wind orchestra. Like the Tenor Horn the instrument is held upright and supported against the body by the left hand and arm. By pressing the valves down in a variety of combinations with the right-hand different sounds can be made. The Baritone is a smaller version of the Euphonium and a popular choice for young starters at Primary School wishing to play lower brass due to its size and weight distribution, which makes it easier to hold. Music is played across a range of genre including wind band, but both Baritone and Euphonium are most commonly found in the brass band where it is heard playing beautiful melodies or fast florid passages akin to the Cello section in an orchestra.

Tuba

The Tuba is the largest instrument of the brass family playing the lowest notes. Different types of Tuba are available once a player becomes more advanced, but beginners normally begin a course of tuition on the 3 valve Eb Tuba.  The Tuba demands a certain size and strength to support the instrument, so players often begin on one of the more manageable brass instruments like Cornet or Baritone in their formative years at Primary School before moving to Tuba as their height and strength develop. Like the Baritone and Euphonium, the instrument is held upright and supported against the body by the left hand and arm. By pressing the valves down in a variety of combinations with the right-hand different sounds can be made. Music is played across a range of genre including classical orchestral, wind band, chamber ensemble and brass band where the instrument is referred to as a Bass.  Tubas play the lowest notes and their musical function is similar to that of  Double Bass in an orchestra or Bass Guitar in jazz and pop bands.
