Cornet

The Cornet, like the Trumpet is the soprano of the brass family. A popular choice for young starters at Primary School due to its size and weight distribution that makes it easier to hold. The instrument is held in the left hand and by pressing down the valves in a variety of combinations with the right-hand different sounds can be made. Music can be played across a range of genre including orchestra and wind band but it is most commonly found in the brass band. Here it can be heard playing beautiful melodies or fast florid passages akin to the Violin in the orchestra. Players that start on the Cornet can make the move to Trumpet or one of the larger brass instruments as their size and strength develop with relative ease.
